18. Why Don't I Want to Re-do My Life?

If all wrongs can be forgiven, why do you have Police Officers?
Synopsis
The Forgotten Road (The Broken Road Series)
By Richard Paul Evans

From New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Rhys Bowen comes a haunting novel about a woman who braves her father’s hidden past to discover his secrets…

“Pass the bread, the olives, and the wine. Oh, and a copy of The Tuscan Child to savor with them.” —NPR

In 1944, British bomber pilot Hugo Langley parachuted from his stricken plane into the verdant fields of German-occupied Tuscany. Badly wounded, he found refuge in a ruined monastery and in the arms of Sofia Bartoli. But the love that kindled between them was shaken by an irreversible betrayal.

Nearly thirty years later, Hugo’s estranged daughter, Joanna, has returned home to the English countryside to arrange her father’s funeral. Among his personal effects is an unopened letter addressed to Sofia. In it is a startling revelation.

Still dealing with the emotional wounds of her own personal trauma, Joanna embarks on a healing journey to Tuscany to understand her father’s history—and maybe come to understand herself as well. Joanna soon discovers that some would prefer the past be left undisturbed, but she has come too far to let go of her father’s secrets now…
I believe that whatever we did, we did it for a reason.
If it turned out differently, we then learn from the mistakes.
Next time, we won't do it again. It's a process of growing to be a better person.

If you didn't fail the subject, you wouldn't know you need to study harder.
If you redo the life; you never failed that subject, you would play so hard, and you thought you were the cleverest of them all.
Would you then, invent something on that subject? NO. Because you thought it was enough.

17. Yes From Me: Stephen King - The Outsider

His writing style is so grand, movie-like.
He has this great monologue, where I can read, while imagining the movie.
The more you read it, the more you can't stop reading it till the end.

16. Home School vs Public School

Home School
  1. Possibility to develop each kid in their own interest from early age.
  2. Limited friends.
  3. Time flexibility.

  4. We can teach the kids more about manners.
  5. We can pass on family cultural traditions.
  6. We can teach the kids more about survival skills.
Public School
  1. Slower development because the kid needs to adjust with other's development. This goes two ways: If our kid is smarter than other kids, they would get bored. If our kid is slower than other kids, they would be very quiet and focus on something else as consolation.
  2. More friends.
  3. Time discipline.

  4. Teachers don't focus on teaching manners.
  5. Teachers teach cultural traditions in general. The kids may grow more tolerant to other culture.
  6. Survival skills are not in the curriculum.
I think I would educate my children myself.
I am not afraid if my children has limited friends.
Are there good friends for my children except me?
Yes, I am a possessive mother.
The children belongs to me anyway.

15. A Hero: Are You?

You were a black woman. You witnessed the white authorities assaulted your friend.
You were to testify in court.

Save the authority:
  1. You would be defending the wrongdoers.
  2. You would betray your friend.
  3. You would not be a good citizen.
Blame the authority:
  1. You were threatened and might lose your family.
  2. You would create a national ripple.
  3. Your life might be in danger for the rest of it.

War strategy:
Post so many threats, that the enemy would find it too many losses if they proceed.

14. If You Can't Say It, Colour It

Your task is to colour all swearing words in the book.
Hope you can release your innermost tension, softly.
I didn't say this is the elegant way, but at least not hard core.
